| In 1950, under a full moon on the island of Manhattan, I was born to Doris. Sixteen years later, without enough time to get to a hospital, she gave birth to my little brother Brian right before my eyes. Little did I know at the time that this experience would effect the direction and mission of my life. As a registered nurse at Albany Medical Center, I realized that being born was such an important step onto earth and wanted to give newborns a better entry. So, in 1990 upon graduation from Downstate Medical Center, I became a Certified Nurse Midwife. This education was important. However, I realized that I needed to gather more experience. It was on the border of Mexico and Texas that I delivered the babies of Mexican women who walked across the Rio Grande River to give birth at Holy Family Birth Center. Sister Angela taught me how to work with the Birth Energy. My journey then brought me to Lancaster, Pa, where I lived among the Amish Community doing home births. What a gift to be let into their world. In contrast, it was interesting and challenging to help establish a Midwifery Practice in a large teaching hospital in Charleston, West Virginia. My travels then led me to Spain where I lived and worked in a Waterbirth Temple. It was there that my heart and mind opened to what really matters to me.....that birth is Sacred. Within each life of a woman, it is always different at the point of creation. The connection between mother and baby is profound, and I try to be one with them. Today I live in my beloved Catskill Mountains and serve the women of Ulster, Green, Dutchess and Columbia counties. Please call for information (845) 687-2229 |
